Everyday more studies and reports are published supporting the use of natural ingredients in cosmetics and health care products. Your typical skin care and cosmetics ingredient list has more in common with a household cleanser than something you would actually want to put on your skin (the bodies largest organ) so why risk the exposure to toxic chemicals when there are alternatives? Most consumers would be surprised to learn that the government does not require health studies or pre-market testing for cosmetics and other personal care products before they are sold. In the United States eighty-nine (89) percent of the 10,500 ingredients FDA has determined are used in personal care products have not been evaluated for safety by the CIR, the FDA, or any other publicly accountable institution. Products such as skin cream, shaving cream, lipstick, deodorants, antiperspirants, and shampoo and more are all affected. The biggest risk comes from where skin is the thinnest (such as the scalp, armpit, or bikini line) and mucus membranes (areas such as mouth, lips, and eyes) are where chemicals are absorbed easiest, and of course these areas are where we use; Shampoo (Some brands contain methylisothiazoline, or MIT, which causes neurological damage.) Eye Shadow and Mascara (Some brands may have mercury in them to help prolong shelf life) Lipstick (Some brands have lead in them, do you really want to put something on your lips that was banned in paint years ago?) Shaving Cream (Many brands contain ingredients such as triethanolamine (also used in nitrogen mustard gas), isobutane, isopentane, sorbitol, and stearic acid.) Antiperspirants (Plugs your pores with aluminum salts, reducing the amount of sweat that exits your body.
